Summary

A measurement survey of thermal environment and comfort conditions in actual offices was carried out, and the results are compared with the predictions of two conventional models: the average predictive vote of thermal sensations and the predictive percentage of unsatisfied people. The comparison is illustrated with charts and the differences revealed are analysed and discussed. In conclusion, it would seem that centralized control systems that are independent of the occupants are limited in their efficiency, that the notion of comfort covers a wider range of thermal sensations than is usually believed, that current standards and practices need revising and that new research, a programme for which is presented, should be carried out.
