VRF systems in the renovation of hystorical buildings: the case of Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo in Venice.

Number: pap. DEC-06

Author(s) : BOECHE A., RIGO M., VIO A., et al.

Summary

The paper describes the renovation of an ancient Venetian palace, built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, rearranged as public offices. The urban fabric of Venice is very special and delicate. The installation of a modern air conditioning system becomes very difficult. The inclusion of the equipment must comply with both the interior architecture of the building and its exterior front. The very narrow streets and winding canals make it complicated even only the transport of heat pumps, chillers or boilers for medium-high power applications. Their placing is complex for the weight and the size. The paper describes the choices made in order to overcome all the problems of this kind of renovation.
