Summary
An intensive search has been under way in recent years for a successor to the high-efficiency heating boiler. The alternatives include electric heat pumps, gas heat pumps, mini- and micro-CHPs (combined heat and power) and mini-CHPs in combination with electric heat pumps. The question is which system has the best chance of success. The following points are important in deciding this: macro-costs of the entire chain; operating costs for the owner/manager of the conversion system; operating costs for the owner of a part of the energy chain; availability of the necessary technology; the extent to which the option chosen is future-proof.
