The Indian Ocean island of Mauritius has obtained a grant to install an air conditioning system for the inhabitants of its capital, Port Louis, which will use cold ocean water.
The Indian Ocean island of Mauritius has obtained a grant to install an air conditioning system for the inhabitants of its capital, Port Louis, which will use cold ocean water.
The island currently uses traditional, energy intensive air-conditioning systems, which presently represents the equivalent of 30 MW of installed capacity. The cold ocean water system will represent about 4MW of installed capacity, thereby reducing the islands reliance on fossil fuels for its power generation.
Additional benefits from the project will see the reduction of CO2 emissions of 40,000 tons of CO2 per year, the creation of 40 'green' jobs for local technicians and engineers and other indirect jobs.
