AREA publishes new F-gas guide for contractors

AREA’s new F-Gas GUIDE details crucial updates on leak checks, labeling requirements, and service bans for high-GWP refrigerants.

AREA (Association of European Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors) has released the AREA F-Gas GUIDE, a practical resource on the application of the new F-Gas Regulation, available in English on our FRIDOC database. This guide, published in October 2024, includes key definitions and outlines significant updates to the regulations.

The AREA F-Gas GUIDE outlines key updates to the new F-Gas Regulation.

It introduces a mandatory leak check after repairs, requiring a 24-hour operational period beforehand. Leak check obligations are extended for operators and manufacturers of equipment with significant HFC and HFO levels.

New labeling requirements will take effect from January 1, 2025. There are service bans for refrigeration and air conditioning systems using high-GWP refrigerants, effective in January 2025 and 2026.

Additionally, enhanced certification requirements for personnel handling fluorinated gases are detailed, urging contractors to reconsider the use of high-GWP refrigerants amid upcoming restrictions.
