Brief: A passage to India
Indian Railways have been granted an additional 10 years, until 2020, within which to phase out or convert the use of all CFC-based refrigerants in the air conditioning of their 10 000 coaches in line with the Montreal Protocol requirements. This is the result of a plea to the United Nations Development Fund for funding from the Montreal Protocol Multilateral Fund which was set up to offer assistance in ozone-depleting substances (ODS) phase-out.
