Briefs: First transcritical CO2 supermarket system in Australia
CO2 is raising interest in the retail industry in warm counties. Last November, a 1-day seminar organised by the Natural Refrigerants Transition Board (NRTB) focusing on the technical challenges related to transcritical CO2 systems, featured a visit to Australia's first supermarket (Angle Vale) equipped with such a system, the first also to be operated in the Southern Hemisphere. This shows that new developments now make it possible to use transcritical CO2 in temperatures over 30°C which could open up possibilities for more sustainable refrigeration in warm climates.
