Briefs: hub in the Philippines
Haisan resources, a Malaysian logistics group, intends to create a regional hub in the Philippines for the storage of foods under controlled-temperature conditions. Construction is already underway to expand and convert the equipments of Haisan's local subsidiary IGLO. The hub is designed to address soaring growth in South-east Asia's processed-food sector, including a fast-growing craving for frozen goods such as ice cream. It consists of 3 terminals that can already accommodate up to 10 000 tons of goods. Estimated blast-freezing capacity is 15 tons per 6-h cycle, temperatures range from 18°-27°C and the hub can meet a vast array of ambient, atmosphere- and dust-controlled requirements which make it possible to handle not only food, but also other goods such as pharmaceuticals, electronic components or tobacco.
