Briefs: Prof L Rey
Prof. Louis Rey, former President of Section C, Biology and food technology, then Vice-President of the IIR's Science and Technology Council, and President of a sub-commission devoted to the biological and medical applications of refrigeration, died recently. After having begun his career in research with the French Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), Louis Rey taught at Dijon University before joining Nestlé where he led the R&D department. He was also President of several learned societies. His work focused primarily on the preservation of living tissues, biological and pharmaceutical products and foodstuffs as well as on historical, geographical and environmental research, particularly in polar regions. Prof. Rey organized a key IIR conference, New Ventures in Freeze-Drying, held in Strasbourg, France in 2007. He was author of a leading-edge book, Freeze-drying/Lyophilization of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products. The IIR extends its sympathy to Louis Rey's family.
