Brunei Darussalam joins global effort against climate change as 167th country to ratify the Kigali Amendment
This September, Brunei Darussalam ratified the Kigali Amendment which will enter into force in December 2025.
On September 18, 2025, Brunei Darussalam ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The Amendment shall enter into force for Brunei Darussalam on 17 December 2025.
As a party to Group 1 of Article 5 of the Kigali Amendment, Brunei Darussalam is required to freeze HFC production starting on 2024 and reduce its HFC consumption by 80% by 2045, compared to its average HFC consumption from 2020 to 2022. Brunei Darussalam is also required to reduce its HCFC consumption by 65% compared to its baseline average consumption in 2009 and 2010.
