China’s plans to accelerate HCFC phase out

Through the HCFC Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP), 45 000 metric tonnes of HCFCs are to be eliminated
In December 19, 2012, the Chinese Minister of the Environment Zhang Lijun, launched the HCFC Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP) a USD 270 million project ot completely phase-out HCFC use by January 2015.

Currently, China is the largest worldwide producer, consumer and exporter of HCFCs: over 70% of global HCFC production and 50% of the total consumption of developing countries.

Through the HPMP, 45 000 metric tonnes of HCFCs (around 17% of China’s overall HCFC use) will be eliminated and replacement technologies will significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the country.
