China: the market share of energy-saving air conditioners increases to 70%

According to the Chinese Ministry of Finance, the market share of energy-saving air conditioners increased from 5% before the subsidy program to 70% after,
Since 2007, China has continually implemented subsidy programs for high-efficiency household appliances, which consume over 450,000 GWh of electricity each year.

In particular, from June 2009 to May 2011, the central government subsidized RMB 150-250 (18-30 €) for each energy-saving air conditioner according to its cooling capacity and energy efficiency level.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the market share of energy-saving air conditioners increased from 5% before the subsidy program to 70% after, and the average unit price decreased from RMB 3,000-4,000 (363-483 €) to about RMB 2,000 (242 €).
