City, University of London organises its 11th Conference on Compressors

Organized biennially by City, University of London, the 11th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems took place on September 9-11, 2019.

The conference welcomed more than 310 participants and attracted 96 technical papers, 3 keynote speeches, 8 industry papers and 16 presentations in the Short Course and Forum on CFD in rotary positive displacement machines.


During the 2-day event, several prizes were awarded including the best student presentation, which was presented by Eckhard A. Groll (President of IIR Section B on Thermodynamics, Equipment and Systems). The prizes were awarded to:


  • Best paper: Novel Turbo Compressor for Heat Pump Using Water as Refrigerant and Lubricant, Tadayoshi Shoyama et al. (Panasonic Corporation, Japan; Kyushu University, Japan; Rotor Bearing Solutions International, USA)
  • Best student paper: Numerical Analysis of Gas Bearings in Oil-free Linear Compressors, Xinye Zhang, et al. (Purdue University, USA)
  • Best student presentation: Experimental testing of pneumatically forced actuated compressor-expander valves, Christian Stoeckel et al. (TU Dresden, Germany)
