The first antimicrobial copper coil air-handling unit was produced last autumn in Europe
The first antimicrobial copper coil air-handling unit was produced last fall in Europe by French manufacturer Hydronic, Europe’s first company allowed to use Antimicrobial CopperTM in an air-handling unit, in association with CICLA (Centre d’information du cuivre laiton et Alliages).
Copper’s antimicrobial properties are ideal against the contamination that can occur in the warm, dark, humid environments of HVAC-system components: it is claimed that tests showed that Antimicrobial CopperTM, when cleared regularly kills over 99.99% of MRSA, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli O157:H7 and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis germs. Moreover, the manufacturers claim these certified copper coil units have a better thermal efficiency, up to 8% higher than standard aluminium.
Previously, in September, CHIGO, a Chinese manufacturer launched the world’s first Direct Inverter CU+ antimicrobial residential air-conditioning in partnership with the International Copper Association.
