First World Ventilation Day set for November 8
World Ventilation Day will be inaugurated on 8th November 2022, at the initiative of several organisations around the world including UNEP.
November 8 has been confirmed as World Ventilation Day, with the theme of the inaugural event being “celebrating ventilation”.[1] Ventilation is the process of bringing fresh, outdoor air inside and letting indoor air outside in order to maintain or improve air quality.[2] Ensuring proper ventilation can help reduce the concentration of indoor air pollutants or contaminants, including viruses.[3]
World Ventil8 Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of ventilation for human health and well-being. It also aims to promote ventilation and indoor air quality. The initiative was set up by a group of UK ventilation professionals from the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA), and academic researchers within the Future Urban Ventilation Network.
Other organisations around the world are supporting this initiative, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning associations (REHVA), the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air conditioning and Heating (AIRAH), and many others.[4]
