Global Cooling Pledge Assembly 2026 to be held in Singapore

Launched at the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), the Global Cooling Pledge unites about 75 countries and 70 non-state actors in the objective to cut down cooling-related emissions by 68% by 2050 ^[1], while ensuring equitable access to sustainable cooling solutions to address extreme heat. As one of the non-state actors supporting the Global Cooling Pledge, the IIR has contributed to the 2023 and 2025 editions of Global Cooling Watch reports, which serve as scientific foundation for the Pledge and detail pathways toward near-zero emissions from cooling.

 

The “Sustainable Cooling Pathway” to cutting down cooling emissions combines passive cooling, low-energy solutions, highly energy-efficient technologies, and climate-friendly refrigerants ^[1].

 

In June 2025, the first Global Cooling Pledge Signatories Focal Points Meeting, co-hosted by Germany, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), co-chaired by Brazil and the UAE, created an initial space for signatories to engage on practical implementation issues, governance arrangements, and priority capacity-building needs.

 

In September 2026, the Global Cooling Pledge Assembly 2026 will bring together Pledge signatory countries, cities, industry leaders, development finance institutions, and technical partners to accelerate the deployment of sustainable cooling solutions and strengthen collaboration.

The objective is to bridge the gap between commitment and delivery by connecting governments with industry, financing, and implementation partners, facilitating access to technical and financial support mechanisms, and showcasing scalable solutions.

 

Furthermore, members of the Intergovernmental Committee on Cooling (IGCC) will hold their first formal meeting during the 2026 Assembly. The IGCC was formally adopted at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, as the governing body to track and guide the delivery of the Pledge. This dedicated meeting will allow signatory governments to take stock of progress, strengthen coordination, and advance implementation of Pledge commitments.

 

The Global Cooling Pledge Assembly 2026 will be held on 15 – 18 September in Singapore.
