Jordan and Cool Up finalise national cooling action plan with 30 key measures for sustainable cooling transition

As of November 2024, Jordan’s finalised National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP) includes 30 key measures which will undergo review before adoption in early 2025.

In Jordan, increasing average temperatures and heat waves are expected to drive up the demand for air conditioning 3.6-fold by 2025.

Throughout the year 2024, Jordan’s Ministry of Environment has been collaborating with IIR partner Cool Up programme to develop the country's National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP).

During the final working group meeting held on 26 November 2024, stakeholders agreed on approximately 30 actionable measures addressing critical intervention areas, including:

  • Building performance standards
  • Energy efficiency and labelling
  • Refrigerant standards and regulation
  • Cold chain development
  • Gender equality and awareness
  • Capacity building
  • Eco-design and End-of-Life treatment
  • Financing and incentives

The finalised NCAP measures will undergo review and integration into the official plan, which will be adopted in early 2025. The action plan is expected to drive Jordan’s transition to energy-efficient and climate-friendly cooling solutions, contributing to the country’s broader sustainability goals.
