LNG Worldwide
- Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is found in many parts of the world (e.g. Algeria, Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar and Trinidad and Tobago), with the largest reserves in the Middle East. Worldwide, there are currently 17 LNG export and 40 import terminals essentially located in Europe, Japan, South Korea and the US. LNG trade is expanding fast: for instance in Japan, the largest importer, consumption has increased over 70% over the past decade. LNG is transported in specially designed ships, each up to 1000 feet long. Currently, 136 ships transport over 120 million tonnes of LNG per year. Each liquefaction train will handle an annual capacity of approximately 7.8 million tons. Start-up of the first train is planned for winter 2007 and gas deliveries are targeted for sale in the UK and other countries in Northern Europe. Advanced talks are also under way with Total in France (source: Trade Arabia). According to Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry, LNG exports could reach 45 million tons per year in 2010. www.qatargas.com, www.exxonmobil.com
