Malta joins global effort against climate change as 172nd country to ratify the Kigali Amendment

In December 2025, Malta ratified the Kigali Amendment which will enter into force in March 2026.

On December 19, 2025, Malta ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The Amendment shall enter into force for Malta on 19 March 2026.

 

As a non-Article 5 party of the Kigali Amendment, Malta is required to reduce its HFC consumption by 80% by 2045, compared to its average HFC consumption from 2011 to 2013.
