Mobile air conditioning: DuPont & Honeywell
DuPont and Honeywell have entered into a global joint development designed to accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation low global-warming refrigerants for mobile air conditioning. One aim is to develop a refrigerant that is compatible with HFC-134a technology. According to industry estimates, there are currently 400 million cars equipped with air-conditioning systems, and each uses 0.5-1 kg of refrigerant. DuPont and Honeywell claim that implementation of the replacement energy efficient refrigerant they are developing would reduce worldwide emissions by the equivalent of 1046 million litres of fuel per year by 2017.
