“Cool Port” is presented as a fine example of cooperation between horticulture, agrifood and logistics sectors. The port authorities expect that 80% of all refrigerated cargo will travel in containers in the near future with the reefer-transported goods flow expected to reach over 12 million tonnes per year in the near future (vs. 2 million tonnes in 2010) and expect it to be the major container port in Europe.
State-of the-art facilities for refrigerated storage, cross-docking, inspection, customs, quality control, repositioning of empty reefer containers and intermodal transport of refrigerated cargo are to be used in order to further strengthen the leading position of the port.
