PRWs: an expanding market

A greater demand for cold store facilities, in particular in dairy production, has boosted the expanding market for public refrigerated warehouses (PRWs). The storage capacity in the US is 3.1 billion cubic feet, almost double that which was available a decade ago. The correct environment is primordial in these installations and temperature control is crucial. Cold stores are keeping pace with technology and RFID and the ability to track and trace products is rapidly developing along with the latest technology in warehouse management systems, transportation management systems and real time information services via the web. Safety is guaranteed in many cases through third party and at times, customer audits.
