Radio frequency technology makes warehouses more efficient and safer
Industrial Conveying has developed new technology for high-rise warehouses. Each crane communicates with every stationary object on its racks. The High Bay Stacker is managed by Radio Frequency (RF) and makes it possible to use very high spaces. The manufacturer claims that stacker crane systems are more effective than human-operated forklifts as they enable faster retrieval. Moreover, WorkSafe bodies in Australia have demonstrated that forklifts are a major cause of staff injury.
In addition, rising energy prices are likely to have an impact on forklift use. The price of square metres of floor space will force certain warehouse operators to reduce floor space and opt for high-rise facilities. Stacker crane technology can be used at temperatures down to -30°C under various humidity conditions. Food Australia, January/February 2011.
