The IIR at the refrigeration forefront of EU projects

Generally involved in the dissemination process, the IIR makes use of its network, activities and services to promote worldwide the research outcomes of the EU projects.

Generally involved in the dissemination process, the IIR makes use of its network, activities and services to promote internationally  research outcomes of EU and international projects.

Since 2011, the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) has been a consortium partner in EU funded research projects, thus furthering our core mission to disseminate refrigeration knowledge in order to improve the quality of life in a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable manner. The refrigeration sector is a global industry second only to the automobile industry. The only independent, neutral, intergovernmental science and technology organization present in the refrigeration sector makes the IIR a key asset in a consortium.

A major player in the dissemination phase of research projects, the IIR network, activities and services enable worldwide communication of EU project outcomes. Currently, the IIR is a partner in two EU funded projects addressing energy efficiency and developing new technologies: COOL- SAVE and ELICiT

COOL-SAVE: The COOL-SAVE project undertakes the development and dissemination of cost effective strategies to improve energy efficiency in cooling systems in the food and drink sector. More specifically, it aims to optimize vapor-compression mechanical systems in the food and drink sector. can be achieved through the dissemination and the implementation of energy efficient strategies which prove effective.

Funded by Intelligent Energy Europe, the 3-year project began in 2012 and will end in April 2015.

The IIR project deliverables include several work packages:

  • Gathering information on different refrigeration installations used in Europe

  • Facilitating potential synergies with other EU projects and initiatives

  • Organizing and facilitating COOL-SAVE workshops in IIR conferences

  • Disseminating COOL-SAVE news through the IIR website, newsletters, email alerts, and social media ( LinkedIn and Twitter)

  • Promoting the project at trade exhibitions and conferences

  • Translating the promotional brochure in French

ELICiT: This ELICiT project focuses on the application of magnetic cooling technology in domestic refrigeration appliances.

Funded by Framework Programme 7 (FP7), the 3-years project began in January 2014 and will end in December 2016. It’s main objective is to further collaboration between SMEs, global appliance manufacturers; and to draw on the expertise found in universities and research centres.

The IIR project deliverables include the standardization work package and the communication and dissemination work package.

  • Involving the IIR Magnetic Refrigeration Working Group in the finalization of standards developed by the ELICiT consortium

  • Creating and updating the ELICiT website

  • Editing and publishing the yearly ELICiT newsletter and communication supports

  • Facilitating the publication of academic papers in the International Journal of Refrigeration (IJR)

  • Facilitating the publication of news in technical journals and newspapers

  • Disseminating ELICiT news through the IIR website, newsletters, email alerts, and social media (LinkedIn and Twitter)

  • Organizing and facilitating ELICiT workshops during IIR conferences

  • Promoting the project at trade exhibitions and conferences using communication supports

  • Creating and disseminating a final outcome report of the project

Previous research projects

FRISBEE: A 4-year Framework Programme 7 (FP7) funded project begun in 2010, FRISBEE ended on 31 August 2014. The objective of the FRISBEE project was to provide new tools, concepts and solutions for improving refrigeration technologies along the European food cold chain.

The IIR deliverables in the communication and dissemination work package included:

  • Facilitating the publication of 6 academic papers in a Special Issue of the IJR in April 2015

  • Creating an E-Book to dissemination final results of the project

  • Organizing and facilitating FRISBEE workshops during IIR conferences

  • Providing general and technical data for the creation of a Virtual Platform using the IIR Bookshop and the Fridoc database

  • Disseminating FRISBEE news through the IIR website, newsletters, email alerts and social media (LinkedIn and Twitter )

  • Promoting the project at trade exhibitions and conferences using communication supports
