Tracing of material in contact with food

The Regulation (EC) N. 1935/ 2004 concerning the tracing of material in contact with food was published in the Official Journal of the European Communities on November, 13, 2004. This Regulation is directly and immediately applicable in all EU Member States as of December 3, 2004 and concerns all public or private companies carrying out any of the activities related to any stage of manufacture, processing and distribution of materials and articles, i.e. cold storage companies which deal with packaging activities. As of December 3, 2004, these companies must buy material which will enter in contact with food corresponding to criteria listed in this regulation. Furthermore, as of October 27, 2006, cold storage companies must trace the material in contact with food they use to pack products.
