On 29 August 2013, the US Department of Energy (DOE) issued long-awaited draft energy efficiency standards for commercial refrigeration equipment – such as self-contained commercial fridges, freezers, and deli cases – and for walk-in freezers and coolers.
Cumulatively, the two rules are expected to save USD 28 billion and cut emissions by over 350 million tonnes of CO2 over a 30-year period.
The final standard for commercial refrigerators and freezers is expected to be released from February 2014.
