The new ISO 22000 standard "Food safety management systems - requirements for any organization in the food chain" was passed in September 2005. This standard will apply to food producers and manufacturers, transport and storage operators and subcontractors to retail and food service outlets and all related organisations such as producers of equipment and packaging material. As stated in its release, ISO 22000 specifies the requirements for a food safety management systems in the food chain in which organizations must demonstrate their ability to control food safety hazards. ISO 22000 makes it easier for organisations worldwide to implement the Codex HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) system for food hygiene in a harmonised manner.
