Effect of partial cooling prior to packing on the quality of apricots, nectarines, peaches and plums after storage.

Résumé

During 3 seasons, Sunlite and Fantasia nectarines, Peregrine peaches, Peeka apricots and Harry Pickstone plums were harvested at optimum maturity (according to export standards) and cooled down to 0, 3, 5, 7.5 or 10 deg C within 18 hours and stored at that temperature for 2, 4 or 6 days. Control fruits were rapidly cooled to -0.5 deg C immediately after harvest. After these treatments, all fruits were kept at 20 deg C for 24 hours, then the peaches, nectarines and apricots were stored at -0.5 deg C for 4 weeks and the plums at -0.5 deg C for 1 week then 7.5 deg C for 3 weeks. After storage, fruits were inspected after 0, 5 or 10 days at 10 deg C. Results are given.
