The influence of after harvest temperature management on fresh beans quality.

Résumé

During the 1999/2000-harvest season, pod temperatures were constantly monitored from the field after harvest up until packaging and preparation for export. Random samples were also taken in the field after harvest and again from the same lot upon arrival in the packinghouse and during sorting and packing for export. The samples were examined for the different types of defects which made it non-exportable according to quality standards adapted from Europe and US requirements. Besides pod wilting which was obviously a function of time and temperature after harvesting, three main problems of non-exportable pods were also identified. The need for correct harvesting emerges clearly.
