Résumé

This new edition of the report contains the results of an annual survey presented by the Chair of the Standing Committee "Dairy Policies and Economics" at the IDF World Dairy Summit, November 2004, held in Brussels, Belgium. It provides: a customary collation of figures and comments from IDF National Committees and other sources where such Committees do not exist; a general overview on milk production, industrial milk processing, trade in dairy products, development of demand and consumption and prices for 2003, along with some dairy product information and forecasts for 2004; country reports provided by experts from member states, describing developments and sometimes subjective prognosis. The WDS Forum section comprises four papers: recent dairy policy developments; OECD and EU projections on agricultural markets; international investment in dairy processing; and, the importance of sheep and goat milk around the world.
