Progrès en matière d'atmosphère contrôlée pour le maintien de la qualité de nouvelles variétés de pommes et de poires en Australie.

Developments in controlled atmosphere technology for quality maintenance of new apple and pear varieties in Australia.

Auteurs : TUGWELL B.

Résumé

New apple and pear varieties harvested at two weekly intervals were stored in controlled atmospheres of low oxygen less than 1%, nitrogen flushed atmospheres and conventional atmospheres of 2% oxygen to determine ideal harvest maturity, storage life and effectiveness in controlling storage disorders. Ideal harvest maturities were established, storage life determined and susceptibility to storage disorders documented for Nijisseiki pears, and Royal Gala, Pink Lady, Fuji and Sundowner apples. Low oxygen storage reduced the incidence of scald on scald susceptible varieties and nitrogen flushing increased firmness and reduced storage rots on early varieties of apples and pears. Recommendations have been provided to the Australian industry.
