Author(s) : GRAHAM T., GOLDSTEIN V.

Summary

THE ICE PLANT CONSISTS OF TWO 500-TON ICE GENERATING UNITS, 2 SEPARATING COLUMNS, A BRINE MAKE-UP TANK, AND THE ASSOCIATED PUMPING. ICE GENERATOR BRINE FEED IS SIMULTANEOUSLY COOLED AND AGITATED RESULTING IN THE PRODUCTION OF PURE WATER ICE SUSPENDED IN A MORE CONCENTRATED BRINE. THIS SLURRY IS PUMPED TO THE FIRST SEPARATION COLUMN WHERE THE ICE FLOATS TO FORM A POROUS BED LEAVING THE MORE CONCENTRATED BRINE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE COLUMN. THIS BRINE IS USED AS FEED FORTIE. THE PARTIALLY DRIED ICE IS HARVESTED FROM THE TOP, MIXED WITH LOWER CONCENTRATION BRINE FROM THE SECOND COLUMN AND PUMPED IN THE SECOND COLUMN, WHERE THE ICE AGAIN SEPARATES FROM THE BRINE. THE CLEAN ICE IS HARVESTED AND MIXED WITH ENOUGH RETURN WATER FROM THE MINE TO PERMIT PUMPING TO THE MINE.
