Summary

The world's largest capacity of 10,000 RT (35.2 megawatts) centrifugal refrigeration unit is presented. Three units have supplied Shinjuku district heating and cooling plant with a capacity of 52,000 RT (182.8 megawatts) and started to operate in January 1991. The unit has three main features as follows: 1) newly-developed diffuser, high efficiency compressor and high efficiency turbine help saving 10% energy in comparison with 7,000 RT (24.5 megawatts) unit; 2) the tube with improved heat transfer coefficient and the technology for proper arrangement of tubes enable the heat exchangers to be made 25% compact compared with the 7,000 RT unit; 3) the unit employs the turbine automation technology and new control system which save energy.
