Summary
Thermag, the International Conference on Magnetic Refrigeration at Room Temperature, founded in 2005, represents the state of the art in the field of new magnetocaloric materials and novel cooling techniques and it brings together researchers from universities, research centers and industry, who are active in fundamental and applied research. In 2018, the scope of the conference was expanded to the growing fields of elastocalorics, electrocalorics, barocalorics, multicalorics and thermomagnetic energy conversion in order to fulfill the needs of the scientific community. Thermag VIII is the 8th International Conference on Magnetic Refrigeration. The proceedings of this IIR event dealing with magnetic refrigeration comprise 43 papers. The themes of the conference cover three main scopes: Magnetocaloric materials (alloys and compounds with magnetocaloric effect; physics of the magnetocaloric effect; shaping and preparation of active materials); Magnetic cooling systems (theory, design and numerical aspects; experimental tests of machines and prototypes; permanent magnets and assemblies); Ferroic materials and heat switches (electrocalorics, barocalorics; heat switches; materials with tunable thermal conductivity).
