Type of article: Article
Summary
THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES THE PLANT, WHICH IS INSTALLED IN A BANK IN STRASBURG, FRANCE, AND WHICH IS EXPECTED TO PAY OFF ITS ORIGINAL INVESTMENT WITHIN TWO YEARS. THE SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED IN ORDER TO MEET THE DRASTICALLY INCREASED NEEDS IN COLD, DUE TO COMPUTER EXPANSION. THE GAS MOTOR HEAT PUMP IS IDEAL FOR GLASS BUILDINGS, LIKE THAT OF THE BANK, WHICH OFTEN NEED HEAT AND COLD AT THE SAME TIME. THE ONE IN THE BANK HAS 70 KILOWATTS OF CAPACITY AND RUNS DURING THE DAY. THE ELECTRIC HEAT PUMP FEEDS THE 314-KILOWATT-CAPACITY ICE CHILLER AT NIGHT, ALLOWING 71,900 KILOWATTHOUR PER YEAR TO BE MOVED TO CHEAPER HOURS. THE GAS MOTOR HEAT PUMP MADE IT POSSIBLE TO ELIMINATE ONE OF THE BANK'S 2,000 KILOWATT FURNACES.
