COMPARATIVE TESTS WERE RUN BETWEEN REFRIGERATED AND EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS IN A VARIETY OF HOUSE CONSTRUCTIONS IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. THE EVAPORATIVE TYPE CAN GIVE REASONABLE COMFORTIN LOW HUMIDITY AMBIENTS WITH REDUCED ENERGY. RUNNING COSTS OF ROOM AIR-CONDITIONERS ARE CONSIDERABLY LOWER IF BUILDINGS ARE INSULATED. A.R.T.
