IN THIS TWO-PART ARTICLE THE AUTHORS ARGUE FOR THE VIBRO-ACOUSTIC METHOD OF DETERMINING, DURING MANUFACTURE, OPERATION AND WHATEVER REPAIRS, THE TECHNICAL STATE AND (REMAINING) SERVICE LIFE OF A RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR. THEY PRESENT A MATHEMATICAL MODEL THAT IS A PREREQUISITE FOR APPLYING THE METHOD. DURING THE MANUFACTURING STAGE THE METHOD SEEKS TO LIMIT VIBRATIONS AND TO VERIFY THE QUALITY OF PARTS AND ASSEMBLY ; DURING OPERATION IT SEEKS TO DETERMINE THE DEGREE OF WEAR AND TO FIND DEFECTIVE PARTS.
