Summary

States that traditional air handling unit control systems link the position of the exhaust air damper, recirculation air damper and outdoor air damper. Tests at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology on a variable air volume air handling unit show air can enter the unit through the exhaust air damper. This can have a deleterious effect on indoor air quality if the exhaust air duct is near a pollution source. Presents a new control system that uses volume matching to control the return fan.
