Type of article: Article

Summary

The objective of the investigation was to empirically examine the effects of droplet diameter, impact frequency, and velocity on the critical heat flux for a horizontal, upward facing flat surface. The aim was to identify trends leading to CHF enhancement and to develop a generalized correlation for CHF as a function of the relevant parameters. With a confidence level of greater than 95% differences between predicted and experimental CHF values were less than more or less 22%.
