A displacer type Stirling refrigerator of 100 watt refrigeration capacity with a nylon matrix regenerator.

Summary

Performances of a prototype Stirling refrigerator employing helium as the working fluid are presented. The prototype is a kinematic drive, displacer type or beta-type Stirling cycle machine of 100 watt design capacity. Attention is focused on the effects of a light, nylon mesh regenerator integrated in the displacer of performances of the prototype refrigerator. Due to reduction of the weight of the reciprocating integrated displacer, the prototype consumed no more than 75% as much energy as the base-line refrigerator. The findings suggest that a refrigerator better optimized for a nylon matrix regenerator would be highly competitive to the HFC based refrigerators currently available as well as the base-line Stirling cycle refrigerator.
