A HEAT PUMP FOR BATCH DISTILLATION.

Author(s) : HODGETT D. L.

Summary

THE PRODUCTION OF MALT WHISKY IS A PROCESS INCLUDING TWO INTERMITTENT BATCH DISTILLATION STAGES. THE AUTHOR DESIGNED A HEAT PUMP USING A STEAM COMPRESSOR FOR THE FIRST STAGE. IN THIS HEAT PUMP, IT IS NECESSARY, IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE COMPRESSOR VOLUME AND MAXIMIZE COP, TO OPTIMIZE THE DESIGN OF THE ETHANOL/WATER STEAM CONDENSER. THE TEST RESULTS FOR A SMALL-SCALE CONDENSER AND THEORETICAL CALCULATIONS ARE COMPARED FOR THE OPERATING CONDITIONS WITHOUT AND WITH THE HEAT PUMP.
