A METHOD OF MEASURING FROST DENSITY USING FLUSH-MOUNTED REMOVABLE DISKS.

Summary

A METHOD OF MEASURING THE LOCAL DENSITY AND MASS CONCENTRATION OF FROST ON A SURFACE IS PRESENTED IN THE PAPER. DURING EACH EXPERIMENT, 14 THIN, SMALL DISKS, THERMALLY BONDED TO A SMOOTH TEST SURFACE WITH RECESSED DISK SPACES, WERE USED FOR FROST SAMPLING. THE HEIGHT OF FROST THICKNESS WAS MEASURED AND DISKS WERE WEIGHED AFTER EACH TEST. ACCURACY OF THE FROST DENSITY IS EXPECTED TO BE BETWEEN 3 % (FOR 1.5 TO 2 MM THICKNESS, AND 6 % FOR THICKNESS UNDER 0.5 MM).
