Type of article: Article

Summary

An analysis of the combined heat and mass transfer process taking place in an initially stagnant pool, for absorption of gas and of a vapour is carried out. When the pressure above the pool is constant, as absorption proceeds adiabatically across an interface initially at low temperature, the interface concentration decreases while the interface temperature increases until absorption ceases. In previous work, the assumption of constant interface concentration and temperature limited the applicability of the solution obtained. In the present work, the diffusion and energy equations have been solved yielding concentration and temperature variations depths of the pool. Comparisons of temperature and concentration profiles without and with additives are given.
