Thermal diffusion across a liquid-vapour interface.

Summary

Heat transport across a gas-liquid interface is studied for an (ideal) isotope mixture and a non-ideal mixture by use of nonequilibrium molecular dynamics. The simulations are used to generate the temperature-, density- and composition profiles across the interface. The results are used to determine the thermal diffusion factor, thermal conductivity, mutual diffusion coefficient, the heat of transport, and to analyse the different contributions to the heat flux. It is shown that the molecular mechanisms of the heat flux change dramatically across the interface.
