Summary

Standard ISO 7730 suggests using either a computer code or a procedure based on tables for evaluating the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) concerning the thermal comfort of an environment; nevertheless the two methods are not equivalent and some errors arise from the second procedure, as it uses an approximate expression of the operating temperature, which, moreover, is not exactly related to PMV. A comparison between the values of PMV resulting from the two methods are presented; in the authors opinion, the use of the tables results in significant errors and is therefore not to be recommended.
