Summary
Refrigeration driven by waste heat is important in energy saving for fishing vessels because a great amount of waste heat from engine is exhausted. On the other hand, the fresh fishes need cooling for preservation. Ejection refrigeration which is simply constructed, compact and of high reliability is applied in this research to solve the technical challenges of heat driven refrigeration in the fishing vessels, such as very restricted room, low cooling temperature requirement and the wavy movement of the deck. Based on the principle of cooling grade and grade conversion of cooling effect, a novel two stage ejection cooling cycle driven by two heat sources is proposed to solve the problems that traditional cooling cycle is hard to achieve ice making with low efficiency. The operation parameters and the performance of the new cycle are analyzed in this study. The results show that, with the additional heat input from the jacket water, almost 40% more cooling capacity can be provided compared with conventional single stage ejection cycle only driven by exhaust hot gas at the evaporating temperature of -5°C. Further experimental work will be launched in the near future to verify the simulation results.
