A NUMERICAL METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE OVERALL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT FOR CONTAINERS.

Author(s) : MILANO G., CORSI G.

Summary

CONTAINERS ARE GENERALLY MADE UP OF PANELS WITH METAL SHEETS AND STIFFENING RIBES, WITH A K COEFFICIENT DEPENDING ON EXISTING THERMAL BRIDGES. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES A NUMERICAL METHOD FOR DETERMINING K, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE EFFECT OF THERMAL BRIDGES BY MEANS OF SOME SIMPLIFICATIONS FOR THE GEOMETRY AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PANELS ; THE THREE-DIMENSION STATIONARY CONDUCTION FIELD WAS REDUCED TO A TWO-DIMENSION PROBLEM. THIS METHOD MAKES ALSO POSSIBLE INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE OPTIMISATION OF INSULATION. THE THEORETICAL PREDICTIONS OF K AGREE WITH EXPERIMENTAL DATA.
