A practical approach to conducting analysing and scaling model tests of ships in ice.

Summary
The paper gives a practical approach to conducting ship-ice model tests by dividing the problem into three components. Model tests to measure these components require that pre-sawn tests be performed in addition to regular ice tests. Non-dimensional analysis and scaling methods are presented to treat each component separately, similar to analysis performed for ship open water testing. Data for a number of vessels demonstrate the reliability of the technique at model and full scale and suggest a means of dealing with frictional effects in making full scale predictions.
