Summary

A SIMPLE ANALYTICAL MODEL HAS BEEN PROPOSED FOR HEAT TRANSFER COMPUTATIONS IN MULTILAYER INSULATIONS BASED ON THERMAL RESISTANCE NETWORK SYSTEM, CONSIDERING SOLID CONTACT CONDUCTANCE, RADIATION AND GAS PHASE CONDUCTION. EXPERIMENTAL DATA FOR SINGLY ALUMINIZED MYLAR AT VARIOUS VACUUM LEVELS AND LAYER DENSITIES, MEASURED WITH A CYLINDRICAL CRYOSTAT BY STEADY STATE METHOD, HAVE BEEN COMPARED WITH THE PREDICTED VALUES AND THE AGREEMENT IS WITHIN 19% AT 10-6 TORR (1.33. 10-4 PA) BETWEEN 290 AND 77 K.
