Summary

THE PAPER SETS OUT HEAT BALANCE EQUATIONS FOR HEAT EXCHANGE IN A ROOM. A COMPUTER PROGRAMME IS ALSO DESCRIBED FOR TYPICAL OFFICE ROOMS. THE CALCULATIONS SHOW THAT THE MAIN FACTORS INFLUENCING THE DESIGN COOLING LOAD UNDER INTERMITTENT OPERATING CONDITION ARE THE ORIENTATION OF THE ROOMS, THE TYPES OF WINDOWS AND THE PRECOOLING PERIOD. A SIMPLIFIED METHOD IS PROPOSED. TO CHECK THE RESULTS, AN EXPERIMENT WAS CARRIED OUT AND THE MAXIMUM CALCULATED HEAT EXTRACTIONS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH MEASURED VALUES.
